start of the holiday weekend [living]
this morning we got a late start on the day's activities. i'm too much of the planning type and need to let go of the reins for a bit so i let twiddle thumbs plan this holiday weekend. she realized how hard it can be (especially when you do things last minute) and even printed out an itinerary. first thing to do this morning: go to the dmv. i never updated my driver's license after i moved back to southern california and with all the amusement parks that offer discounts to southern californians, i have been wanting to do this but just never made time to do it. a few select dmvs are open one saturday per month and naturally they're all busy as hell with everyone who can't attend during weekdays. we got there late and it didn't take too long which was surprising. they didn't take my picture though so my license will have the same old pre-vegan photo.
then we met nopalita at the puente hills mall so that we could go to one of the cingular kiosks operated by my company and get her a phone upgrade. it was an interesting visit. i felt like a mystery shopper. later in the sale i mentioned who i was and you should've seen the workers' jaws drop to the floor. they didn't know what i look like and i'm sure they realized the little things they did that weren't very professional. i made mental notes of everything we need to work on but also asked what they need and assured them that they can call me with any issues they might have. you know, just being supportive.
after that we had lunch at johnny rocket's and i was really surprised that also serve boca burger there. we checked out a mexican-american themed store. i love those damn comedic shirts such as "y las tortillas?" and the like. i also bought some more silver hoops for my ears because i have a bunch of holes thanks to my goth years and they are starting to close up. then we did a wal-mart run to support the man. actually, both of us are doing weekend getaways and needed to pickup a few things. i made sure nopalita got a pair of jumper cables so that she could be a real man. in the mall parking lot, we popped her hood and showed her the basics of taking car of a car for a road trip such as checking the oil and coolant levels, how to change a flat, etc. (you know, lesbian 101.) i talked her into getting cingular roadside assistance but it's good to know these things.
since it was getting late, we called off band practice. i didn't want to start bad habits of slacking off practice but one must be flexible. maybe we'll reschedule so that we meet during the week instead of the weekend. it was time to head home and back our bags for exciting chatsworth!!! (it's in the san fernando valley, in northern LA county as opposed to we live in southern LA county.) we planned our weekend getaway too late to get a room in a cool town so i advised that we find a cool room in a boring town. this is also what i advised for new year's eve--that we, the girls, find a cool room in a boring town and just spend quality time together relaxing and shit. well, finally this sort of casual weekend getaway is here and i'm looking forward to it. twiddle thumbs's criteria for a room was that it have a jacuzzi tub or a hot tub. she wasn't going to give up on this point though it looked bleak for most of her search yesterday. she was even able to talk down the price. we drove over there in about 1 hour and had dinner down the road at the burrito factory, which claims to have 52 different types of burritos. not really, i mean, you'd really have to do every single different possible combination of ingredients. even i could come up with at least 52 different ones on my own if i did that. here's one with black beans only, here's one with pinto beans only, here's one with black beans AND pinto beans only, here's one with black beans and rice, etc.
