field trip: watts towers [living]

four of us went to go see the watts towers because we're from LA and have never been there. the watts towers are in watts, which some may know for the watts riots in the 1960s. the towers were built by simon rodia and were basically a found objects backyard free time project for over 33 years. i took cack baby along because it hasn't seen southern california yet. cack baby really needs to get out of the house more often.

i love watts!

after visiting the towers we walked around a bit and decided we were getting hungry and wanted to find someplace to eat. close by is plaza mexico, which is something we had always seen from the 105 freeway but weren't sure what was there so we decided to go there. i thought that maybe it was a shopping complex that decided to give themselves a name and a huge sign in order to attract customers. we got there and it was the mexican city walk. the front gate area has many cactus and when you enter there is a rotary/circle/roundabout with a replica of a statue in mexico city. behind that is the plaza. it is surrounded by shops. the market place is pretty much an open building with many vendors inside, just like one i went to in mexico city. there are replica mexican statues and things here and there. the place really is plaza mexico!
