ipod generations [geeking]

comparing twiddle thumbs's g5 ipod to my g3 (i think that's what it is), there are noticeable differences and not all for the better. naturally what is better is that ipods now have larger capacity, slimmer body, bigger display screen, and the screen is in color. now they can play video files which may not interest all but i am warming up to it. what bugs me though is that the video is linked to itunes. what about your video files you took with your digital camera that are in iphoto? (i am still warming up to the idea of iphoto storing those video files to begin with.)

what sucks about the new ipod design is that it lacks the plug that allows the headphone remote control unit to be plugged in. another thing that sucks is that not only does the new ipod (since which generation i'm not sure but probably ever since the ipod got pc-ized) not ship with a firewire cable (damn pc bastards who are so stuck on usb they don't know the beauty of firewire), but it is not even firewire compatible. that's right, i tried hooking up my firewire cable to twiddle thumbs's ipod (do you know how long it takes to transfer 40gb via usb vs. firewire?) and no dice. i can live with out a remote control unit but lack of firewire compatibility is the biggest deficiency of the new ipods. it's almost worth it to purchase an older model, but not quite. because let's face it, the larger capacity, slimmer body, wider screen, and color screen are all very attractive features. but what is really nice too for those that like to share their photos is something that's been available since the prior generation, which is putting your photos on the unit and using it to connect to tvs for presentations. now that the ipod can handle video, just throw in the latest and rare music videos or a rough cut of your latest film and play it for your friends. hell, even put in the latest movie trailers and show it to friends when hanging out so you can decide on which film to see. i'm sure there are hundred of new possibilities now that video is possible but i guess ultimately i'm just convincing myself what the new ipod still rocks despite the no-firewire flaw. the final thing that sucks about the new ipod is that they do not come with an a/c adaptor (not sure when apple stopped distributing this with ipods).
