first day of american corporate life [working]

today was my first day of my new job; the start of my new life. i wore a suit--i've never dressed up so much for work. i'm working for mobile systems wireless, a cingular agent. you know those kiosks in the mall that sell cells? yeah, that's us. san diego up to san francisco and sacramento plus the seattle area. man, i can't believe how much money there is to be made in sales by commission. mind-blowing stuff. but that's not me, that's not what i do. i'm a corporate person, not a sales person. i work for my wage 'cos it's my job and it's what i want to do right now--i'm not trying to sell anything because my paycheck depends on it. i'm an executive administrative assistant/office manager sort of deal. it's a raise in title for me and distance wise it's very close by so i'm happy. it's a small office but the company is not.

my first day was a bit strange. i showed up at 9am like i was told to do and no one was there. after 20 minutes of knocking and waiting (hey, they could've been in a meeting), i went downstairs and outside and back and forth and was placing calls to corporate in san diego. the reception person wasn't really friendly or helpful. if a new hire called and said no one is at work, wouldn't you try to help find out what's going on? i hung out in my car and tried to make more calls and left messages. then after 10am i went back to the office and people were there. the human resources person that i spoke with on the phone was there and she told me that she was gonna tell me to just come in at 10am but my new boss said 9am is fine and she'd be there at 9am. no one could figure out however where my new boss was at. we started on the paperwork. shortly thereafter, my boss calls the hr lady. she thought she was supposed to be there at 11am. just a miscommunication issue. *whew* for a few minutes there while i was waiting around, i thought maybe i didn't have a job afterall. now i'm all signed up and officially an employee. on friday i have to go down to san diego to do some more intro stuff and then i'm good to go. so far, so good, what's next? now it's just deciding how many years do i want to put into this place.
