...but i don't think i pulled it off. 2.5 hours at a baby shower is simply more than i can stand. at first it was really, really awkward. i've known this friend for years but never met all their siblings. i wasn't introduced to them but i think they were all there, spouses and children included. some of my friend's friends were 'old', just an older crowd than i'd normally hang with. plus, i usually am only friends with my friend, not friends with my friend's friends. it seems that this friend's circle all know each other, as if they hang out with each other all the time. i knew the person who went to my high school and two other faces seemed familiar but other than that, twiddle thumbs and i were the outcasts. naturally, twiddle thumbs felt more out of place than i did. i like to bring twiddle thumbs along with me to gatherings of my friends because being an outsider, she always makes observations of things i never noticed before.

for this friend i've gone to 1 wedding and 1 baby shower. 1 each, that's all one gets from me. this was the second baby shower i've been to and for some strange reason again i won the games. ok, maybe i didn't exactly kill at the first baby shower and at this one there were only two games and we worked in teams but twiddle thumbs and i won both games. the games were pretty good actually. one of the games was a word scramble of common foods for babies. twiddle thumbs and i deciphered them all, about 20. one other team did as well. the father-to-be only deciphered about 5 of the foods. (not hard to guess who among us were the teacher's pets.) the other game consisted of guessing what baby items were in small bags, smaller than lunch bags. you could do anything you wanted to the bag except open it. twiddle thumbs and i got 4 out of 5 correct. (we missed the diaper but got the baby powder, pacifier, bib, and bulb syringe.) a few teams got 3 correct. the only team of one person, the father-to-be, got just 1 correct. the lesson here is that none of these people should breed if they can't figure out baby foods and guess simple baby items in a bag.
