las victimas son invencibles [listening]

my head is pounding from last night's victimas del dr. cerebro concert at jc fandango's in anaheim. i didn't drink, i didn't smell pot, and i wasn't the one on stage, but somehow i have the most intense headache. i even wore earplugs, which goes to show you how loud it must've been. now i'm trying to retype what i wrote because i already wrote all about it but somehow messed things up and have to do it again and i really don't feel like typing anything at all.

normally i would go to a concert early and try to get up in front to take photos and stuff but this time we just wanted to relax and enjoy the show instead of getting beat up. doors at 8pm but we got there at 8:50pm or so because we weren't in a hurry. no cameras/no recorders but i managed to get both in even though i was searched, suckers! the place was not packed and i decided i wanted to be up in front afterall. we swung by the merchandise table but they only had stuff for calavera. a long time passed before the first band went on.

matamoska. they suck. they weren't that but the singer is a loser. he looked like he just woke up to do the show for the free beer. he was afraid of performing. he would sing with his eyes closed or his back to the audience and kept screaming this stupid shit like, "eauaargh!"

15 letras. i saw them 10 years ago when i saw victimas for the first time. i don't remember them sucking this bad. they are like a bad tijuana no. the keyboard player also has no business being up on stage. he did jack shit.

calavera. i have no idea why people like them. they sucked too.

finally victimas came out. they didn't appear to have a setlist but rather played whatever they felt like all night. they really didn't take a break, just gave it their all the whole time, especially ranas. by the time they were done, i don't think there was nothing left to give. i wasn't expecting an encore and we didn't get one. the big lazy fat bastard guard in front of me was a total asshole and singled me out the whole night. there were people taking pictures (with flash) during the opening bands and during victimas. i didn't see any of the guards tell me not to take pictures, yet everytime i tried to take one (no flash), the guard put his hand out to block me. he sat on the stage the whole time and never got up to stop people from jumping on stage or to catch the crowd surfers like the other guards did. i eventually gave up trying to take a picture because i didn't want to press my luck and get kicked out or busted for having a recorder. i was able to take plenty of nice pictures the last time i saw victimas and my digital camera is shit for live shows anyway. i'm so pissed though that i don't have the heart to listen to the mini disc to see if it came out alright. i couldn't even look at the pictures i managed to take to see if anything came out until just now. normally i'd be all excited and review the photos immediately.

the best shot i was able to get, taken at the beginning of the show

ranas was crazier than ever, jumping all over the place, climbing up poles, and hanging from the ceiling. at one point, you could tell even the band was afraid for him. chipotle came out to the front and told the audience to put their hands up and catch ranas when he jumps. everytime ranas did a crazy move (and there were many), i was agonizing over how i wasn't able to take a picture of it. i even contemplated giving up my spot in the front so i could go towards the mosh pit and take pictures. i never left the front though. it did pay off in a way towards the end when the band was handing out goodies. tuco walked right up and threw one of the little skeletons with candy at me. the bitch next to me tried to steal it and ruin my moment but there was no way i was gonna let her do that. she had been annoying me the whole night and she stunk, or her boyfriend did. someone was very stinky and it made me sick.

after the show ended, we went back to the merchandise table because abulon said that their new cd is available. it's not that new, it came out in may, but we've been away and it's always so hard to find out what's going on with victimas. the lady selling the stuff ran out of cds but someone went to get some more. in the meantime, i bought the live dvd they were selling for $10. when the guy came with the cds, he said both the cds and dvds are $10 each. the lady had told us $12. she sold us the cd for $10. then this girl came up and bought the cd for $12. hmmm, i think that lady is pocketing the cash. apparently there were also t-shirts but they ran out.

me and abulon

i noticed a crowd had gathered at the front of the stage. abulon was there, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. i headed straight over there. when it was my turn to talk to him, he told me in spanish that he liked my shirt. as creepy as it sounds, i actually decided to wear that shirt because i knew it was something abulon would like. the first thing that came to my head to say was how i last saw them 2 years ago in san francisco. he said that was a strange show. maybe i should've said that i first saw them 10 years ago. abulon was as nice as ever, but perhaps that was the intoxication speaking. he kissed me twice in the latino tradition of the cheek thing, which still is not part of my manners, especially when i wear lipstick and i don't want to get it on someone. twiddle thumbs took the picture and you know she's not good with a camera, she was really close but i though hell, i'm tired and don't care. abulon looks fucked up anyway. then abulon signed her cd and took a picture with her. we didn't bother to hang around and try to meet the other guys. maybe next time when my stuff is not in storage i will try to get them to sign my tecnopal record.
