batman still sucks [watching]
finally watched "batman begins" courtesy of the cheapo movie theater. it's just another bloated film that doesn't cut it for me as a successful comic adaptation--i haven't read too many comics, especially american comics, but i have never seen a live action film based on a comic that felt right except for "sin city". while i'm sure many are interested in the origins of the most popular comic heroes, and it was really great to see all the pieces come together, there's just something about the beginnings of any character that is a bit dull. origin films are like tv pilot episodes--they're just not something you can watch over and over. to continue on with this new take on batman, beginning with "batman begins", well then i expect good things, possibly great things. we got the origin crap out of the way, now go make a damn good movie! i especially felt that way at the end of the film when gordon showed batman the joker card left behind at the scene of a crime. my immediate thought after that of course was a concern for casting. if they fuck up the casting for the joker then they have fucked up the entire film.
