seeking minimum responsibility work for stupid people [working]
it's almost here. the make or break point financially speaking. in just a few hundred dollars, i will be completely out of funds. i have enough for the essentials, food and gasoline. but that's it. not enough to pay the end of the month bills. this means that i desperately need a paying job so i didn't go to the internship today. instead i went around the local retail community seeking employment. i need something part-time on weekends with flexible hours for weekdays. hence, retail. (this way i can still do the internship.)
retail. these are jobs for stupid people. which is probably why they never hire me. everytime i need a little extra cash, i think i could do a second job of something mindless like retail but i don't even get called back for an interview. it all started when i was 16 and applied to work at an amusement park. no call backs. too smart for them i guess and everything else since that was minimum wage type stuff. overqualified? maybe. intimidated? most likely! hhahahaaaaa
i have talked about this with another friend who also tries to make a little extra money by applying for retail but never gets the job. we came up with a strategy: we need to dumb down ourselves. so i tried it today. i made a stupider version of my resume (tried to cut out anything having to do with computers) and wandered about to fill out applications but it seems that these days a lot of places have you submit the application online. fine if you can attach a resume, a pain in the ass if you have to type out everything, answer a million questions on ever serving in the military or qualifying for food stamps, and take a personality test! kid you not, some places had applications longer than "war and peace". we'll see what happens. after explaining why i didn't show up today, my producer said that maybe they could comp me gas and lunch and stuff. i don't need anyone to worry about feeding me but chipping in for gas would sure be appreciated, especially since it jumped up 20 cents per gallon overnight.
