california science center [living]

emergency call boxes in the parking lot
eva needed to get of the house for awhile but she had to babysit her cousin's 4 year old kid. she wanted to go to an art museum in pasadena ('cos it's free for students) but i knew a kid could only put up with that kind of museum for a few minutes before they get really cranky. i searched around for a free museum and found several things i can do for the rest of my broke ass summer. but i also found out about the california science center, where kids can get hands-on with the exhibits. sounds perfect!
we hopped in the car and got there with about 2 hours to look around before they closed. we had to pay for parking but that was expected. the imax theater is right there but we weren't interested in what was showing and besides, today was a broke field trip. there were so many families wandering about that i was glad we had the kid with us, otherwise we really didn't have an excuse to be there. it would have be really weird if we were just 3 adults wandering around the museum.

the thing that freaked the kid out
one exhibit focused on robotics and there was a robotic dinosaur on display to show the motion of legs. well, the kid loved that robot but got pretty sad when she found out that dinosaurs no longer exist. oh boy, don't ever take that kid to the la brea tar pits! there were other exhibits, sure, but let's get on to the good stuff.
it was the last show of the day for something called "bodyworks". a show? you mean i get to sit down and watch a screen? that's for me! we go in the theater and it's not that kind of show. there is giant human replica laid out in the middle of the room with the insides exposed. the kid freaked out but nopalita convinced her to stay for the show. once the lights went out, there was a small screen with an animated character that talked to the big body in the room. the kid was freaking out and nopalita had to take her out. damn, what a pussy. i could not put up with having a kid that was scared of everything. i couldn't stand such kids when i was a kid and i certainly can't stand them now.

next door is the los angeles memorial coliseum
