sky captain and the world of crap [watching]

we netflixed "sky captain and the world of tomorrow". someone needs to teach those filmmakers a little something about pacing. goddamn that film was slow. it was the length of a regular film but it felt like it went on for hours. the basic story was alright but it really lacked something. the visual style was amazing but that is not enough to save the film. i was only interested in this film for one reason--it was pretty much all blue screen except for the actors.

what i liked about how the film looked: the comic-book-come-to-life visualizations, the set-in-the-past-science-fiction look; the color treatment, just the overall look and feel was great. which is why it's such a shame that the rest of the film did not live up to the bar set by the visuals. maybe this story would have been a lot better as a month long (or longer) serial run on a pay cable channel like hbo or showtime. but of course, with a faster pace.
