going to a club in the ghetto [living]

i learned an important lesson tonight: never go to a club advertised in an email mailing list. especially one that hardly gets any traffic at all except for advertisements. there was one just starting up in LA that was advertised. the music they listed was stuff that me and my friends like so me and my friends got in the car and drove out there. it was some butt-fuck place on the map that none of us have ever heard of--maywood anyone?--but as we were getting closer, we passed the "welcome to east los angeles" sign and knew that things were not going to get any brighter.

we drove through a residential neighborhood, inching our way towards the address. we were starting to wonder if the club was really just someone's house party. we reached the end of the housing section and ended up in a industrial zone. right there was a bar with music pumping and staff outside. i guess this is the club. the neighborhood was too creepy. we drove by again and decided not to park and risk losing the car. we left immediately and headed for home. it was really a strange gregg araki type of night.

on a side note, i'm really starting to hate yahoo maps. i've used it for years as my preferred and only internet map tool for driving directions. the past few times i've used it though, it's been crap. someone tweaked it and whatever enhancement they have done has seriously compromised its directions accuracy. the directions are correct, except for one minor point. it always seem to miss 1 key turn in the directions now. it just says 'merge' instead of turn left or right or even a helpful head north or east. something more specific other than 'merge'. when i read 'merge' i think there's only one option. or worse, it says head towards some street that you have not heard of and don't know where it is.

when you actually drive according to the directions, somewhere along the line you realize things don't look right and you're heading the wrong direction. if you're lucky, this fuckup is in the very beginning. let's say you're going to multiple places that you're not familiar with. when you get to one of them and are ready to head to the next place, you look at the directions yahoo gave and it says to head towards some street. great. i don't know where that street is. and what street am i supposed to be driving on to head towards it?! its usually the street the address of the place is but it's very important in these cases to zoom in on the map and read all the surrounding street names and even draw a little map to fucking take with you 'cos you know yahoo fucks it up somewhere down the road and you're gonna need a map to figure it out yourself.
