first day on the job [working]

today was my first day at the temp job i landed. first of all, i didn't even know i got the temp job i interviewed for. my temp agency contact person never got back to me on it. i wrote her email over the weekend so she would see it as soon as she got into the office. i'm guessing she gets there at 8:30am. i'm guessing whatever job i got starts at 8:30am or 9:00am. i got ready for a job but not sure where to go. i haven't heard anything and wait. it's 8:50am and i call her. she swears she called me on friday or sent an email. nope. nada. nil. zip. sweet fa babe. she tells me what job i got and asks when i can be in. uh, 9am. i rush out there hoping i wasn't to start at 8:30am and ready to give profuse apologies.

i'm temping at alcatel. they provide the technology backend sort of stuff for telecom new zealand and australia, the rival to the previous temp job i had in auckland, which makes it interesting.

what i like about the job: good pay and close to home. it's on the same street block i live on, just the diagonal opposite. i love that i don't have to cross any streets to get to work.

what i dislike about the job: perhaps i shouldn't say just yet! i don't feel like i fit in. well it's just a different environment for me. this truly is the corporate world, the land of cubicles and such. tons of acronyms thrown around that i have no idea the meaning of. i really need to learn what it's like to work in the business world as opposed to the academic world so i have to stick with it and learn as much as possible.
