the new zealand they don't tell you about... [living]
...that it smells. car exhaust. if you've been to japan or mexico or just about any country i suppose, it smells like that. i hate that gas smell. that is the good part about our car emissions laws, the air is pretty clean to breathe when you stand at intersections. here, it's awful. sometimes i hold my breath when a bus passes by.
also, EVERYONE smokes! (even the cars, see above.) i'm getting pretty sick of all the cigarette smoke. even when i'm alone in my room. it's so goddamn hot, i crack open the balcony door or my window and in comes the cigarette smoke. sometimes, another kind of smoke too. yeah, it's like santa cruz like that. the heat was pretty bad for a few weeks there. constantly had the window open and slept in minimal clothing and no bedsheets or blankets. if you could sleep that is. now it's more like you are awaken early in the morning by the slightest of chills so you might cover yourself with a sheet or something, maybe.
