kiwi supermarkets [living]

at new zealand supermarkets, eggs are not refrigerated but candy bars are. go figure. (pet food is also refrigerated.)

there's tons of stuff on the shelves that i wonder about. strange things.

for alcohol, they only sell beer and wine. if you want anything else, you have to go to a liquor store.

for a supermarket discount card, you cannot enter your phone number as an alternative to swiping the card. also, you must wait 4-6 waits after applying to receive the damn card. i applied for one about 2 weeks ago and did not receive a temporary card at the time. receiving a temporary card is such standard practice that every time i go shopping and explain that i don't have my card yet, they harass me saying that i must have received a temporary card.

there are few soy/veggie/vegan choices.

i could not find napkins today...probably because they were in the only aisle i didn't walk down! hey, i went down 1 aisle of paper goods and didn't see them. i didn't realize there was another aisle that had the napkins because it's the aisle with 'haberdashery' items.

i miss america for the food options. this happened to me in japan/korea. but it demoralized me over there. at least here there are things i can eat. there are healthier stores out there and restaurants with veggie items. i'm still happy and upbeat. my asian trip this summer was horrible. i might get into that state when i travel the country. i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
