vegan japanese food [ingesting]
i had been really looking forward to eating at a vegan japanese restaurant that i read about online. it's called vegan tokyo teriyaki. we finally go to eat there and it's not what i thought it would be at all. it's not a real restaurant. it's a strip mall fast-food sort of place. self-service thing, not waiters and waitresses. but most of all, it wasn't even japanese. it was owned by koreans. they were rude to us, in my opinion.
we drove by and missed it at first so we ended up taking a 20 minute delay. we arrived just after 7:30pm and the place closes at 8pm. since it was very close to closing in their opinion, they didn't really want to serve us. they said they will pack our things to go and we can start eating inside until they close. while we were having our tea, they started to turn the lights out on us. there were other customers there too. it was still a good 10 minutes until 8pm. there were customers walking in at the very last minute, ordering. so we sat inside and finished our dinner because they couldn't kick us out if they were still making food for others.
i don't think they understand english too well either. that's fine but it gets frustrating when you're trying to order because it was as if the workers didn't even know their own menu. some meals include rice and vegetables, others only include miso soup. the worker kept asking us if we wanted to add things that our dinners already come with! when i pointed this out to the worker, she acted as if either she didn't understand or just didn't care. i think she charged us for the things our dinner comes with as extra side dishes. then they forgot to make the gyoza side dish that i ordered and we had to remind them about it. they looked at us like we were lying about it.
disappointments and frustrations aside, they make really good fake chicken. my mom thinks they don't know how to make rice. though i think japanese are very snobby when it comes to rice. japanese only like japanese rice. i mean real japanese rice. rice made in japan, by japanese, eaten in japan. just white too. don't try to pull any other shit with rice on them. they won't have it. end of story.
we all ate our food very quickly. i was too full to try the gyoza though. leftovers. i hope they're good!
