my first vegan thanksgiving [ingesting]
it started at about 8:30am. i got up and cooked all morning. we were just going to make food so that twiddle thumbs and i would have something to eat at our relativves' thanksgiving celebrations. howevere, since twiddle thumbs is sick i ended up making all the food. everything i made was new to me--recipes gathered from the net. i really meant to take a picture of it all, but cooking everything took much longer than i thought it would. i was rushed around 1pm to get showered and dressed to go to my grandparents' house for dinner at 2pm. while i was doing that, twiddle thumbs boxed all the food so i never got a chance to take a picture.
the main dish was of course the fake turkey: tofurky. they have a package for about $20 that i got for free by purchasing enough groceries at wild oats. of course, i had to buy about $500 in groceries to get my $20 feast but i was just doing my regular shopping anyway to rack up enough turkey points to get the tofurky feast. the tofurky feast includes the fake turkey, gravy, and dumplings.
the side dishes:
- green beans and yellow squash with pine nuts
- cherry tomatoes with zucchini and yellow squash in a basil (soy) butter sauce with shallots and garlic
- garlic mashed potatoes (soy milk)
dessert:
- tofu pumpkin pie that i made last night
- uncle eddie's vegan cookies (the most delicious vegan cookies i have ever tasted)
drink:
- vitamin water by glaceau (i love these drinks!)
- soy nog by silk (because it's just so damn good we had to let the non-vegans know about it)
i think this was my first thanksgiving where i didn't eat any bread.
