good-bye computers part 2 [geeking]

today twiddle thumbs and i went back over to our friend's house to finish moving all of her files over to her newly acquired computer. she doesn't have a firewire port on either computer, so i couldn't use my portable hard drive. her old pc doesn't detect my usb flash drive. we brought a parallel port cable to do a file transfer. it took awhile before the computers recognized each other, for some unknown reason. then the file transfer began. it was going to take close to 2 hours so we went to dinner and came back. when the screen said only a few seconds were left, suddendly it jumped to a huge number in minutes that no one could count. we decided to pull the plug and try it again, only moving the files small in size. only, we couldn't get the computers to recognize each other again. we were giving up when we realized what idiots we were. the old pc has a cd-r. we fucking burned the shit! it took a few cds and burned at about 15 minutes per cd. but it was so much easier. the download time from the cd to the new pc was just a few minutes. what a relief. it was getting really late so we left instructions on how to finish burning the remaining files to cd and headed home.
