castle in the sky [watching]

i netflixed "tenkyu no shiro" ("castle in the sky") to give hayao miyazaki a chance. i saw part of "tonari no totoro" when i was in high school and i hated it. i saw even less of "mononoke hime" when i visited japan 7 years ago and it put me to sleep. you could say i didn't get off to a good start with miyazaki's films, but somehow i really liked "sen to chihiro no kamikakushi" ("spirited away"). "castle in the sky" didn't improve my opinion of miyazaki's films either. i couldn't get into it. i didn't see what the big deal is. perhaps i simply don't like his films from the 1980s.
