prey for hype [watching]

so i finally got my ass to watch "prey for rock and roll". i had hyped it up too much. i wanted to like it way too much. i was a fan before even watching it. the last time i did that to a film was "the blair witch" and i ended up hating it when i saw it. i think i need to take a few years out and re-watch blair witch and prey. i need to view those films with a fresh slate.

i really liked gina gershon's performance of the songs live in person, but i don't know about the film. i just couldn't buy into the performance. i kept thinking it's gina gershon. other films she's in, i can buy into the character, i will believe it and get into the story. something was blocking me on this one. i think gina was trying way too hard to look rock and roll cool. if this is a film about a woman reaching the point in her life where she is trying to decide to give up her dream, well i just don't think she would look as 'fresh-faced'. i can't think of the right word. i think she would be more bummed out and tired. not so perfect hollywood hair, etc.

i was also cheering for cheri lovedog for getting out there, writing a script, and getting it into a film. an inspiration for would-be filmmakers. a cheer for former LA turned SC resident. a cheer for the tattoo shop i always pass by on my way to vegan meals. but then i saw the film. i don't know... i don't know at all what it was about the film that prevented me from getting into it. i really wanted to like the music in the film because i love what stephen trask did in "hedwig and the angry inch", but i just wasn't into the music in the film. maybe the songs i liked live are only on the soundtrack and not part of the film. i don't know. i'm just very hesitant now to buy the soundtrack.
