long day [working]
today was a long day at work. first there was the campus wide staff breakfast, which is buffet style so it always sucks for me. i just don't do well at buffets. there never seems to be something filling. now with my dietary restrictions, there was very little i could eat. it was heart attack/allergy city. there were eggs and sausages and pastries, bleugh! i had a vegan tofu scramble that had god knows what spices in it, some fruit, and english tea. the tea choices at these functions have always been crap. there wasn't even any regular bread or cereal. no milk. i would've been fine with cereal and soy milk. i think even the breakfasts during regular dining hall hours offers more choices than what was at the staff breakfast. i know it's free so i shouldn't complain but they should've at least given us something edible. i would've ate at home if i knew it was going to be so extremely limited.
i suppose the day went by quickly but i had to stay in the evening due to an event our department puts on every year. it's a slightly dressed up affair and each year i always come to work already in my nice clothes and end up getting sweaty during setup, etc. not this year. i came in my regular work clothes and brought my nice clothes separately. but, this year everyone else already came in their nice clothes. so they were probably wondering if i was really going to wear cargo pants that evening! hehehe after we thought we had completed the setup, someone had to bitch of course about something so then i had to do a little more setup. when i returned, the masses had arrived. i quickly changed into nice clothes and put on make-up but that wasn't quick enough, for when i returned i was bitched at slightly because they couldn't find me and the event had already begun. i was supposed to take pictures and in a panic they gave the camera to someone else. they really should calm the fuck down because what i was to take pictures of had not even begun. also, i hate being the photographer. i am nicknamed the unofficial photographer and lately they call me the official photographer. all because the first time a photograph was needed of something and i said i would take it. i learned to NEVER VOLUNTEER because you will be stuck with it every time! if you're going to add shit to my job description, pay me more, fuckers. enough bitching on that one. there was a lecture, then a dinner (yes, another free meal). normally i think the food sucks at these dinners too but what i had wasn't so bad. it was pasta but the sauce tasted a bit of cheese and the pasta seemed too buttery. meat free, but not vegan. after the dinner, we had to clean up. what sucks about this event is everyone is excited to have it, but few are willing to make it happen, especially the setup and clean up! i worked until 10pm. thank god for nice boys. they helped with the heavy stuff, otherwise i might still be there with a slipped disc or something. one of the boys was sick and that worried me because i do not want to get sick.
