middle eastern music [listening]

the cds that i ordered from traditional crossroads have arrived. i bought 1 more shoghaken ensemble cd, "traditional dances of armenia", which is really good. it contains a lot of the songs that i loved at the performance. the night ark cd is good, but my cd player will not play it. that is very disappointing. i think it might be time to get a new stereo. i had to play the night ark cd in the dvd player and send it through to the stereo. (my computer dvd/cd player doesn't work either--it hasn't worked in over 1 year.) it's really good as well. i haven't listened to the whole thing yet. another cd that i bought was a collection of music from afghanistan. it sounds a bit from the past, i mean, it sounds a bit lo-tech. it is like a soundtrack to traveling in the middle east pre-1960s. it sounds that way because it was recorded a long time ago, (way back in 1968). it's a double disc set and i have only listened to the first few tracks, but so far it seems really cool. it's definitely different than the middle eastern music i have been exposed to.
