dvd audio [listening]
i have bought some music video collections on dvd of bands that i sort of like, but only want a 'best of' type of collection on cd. i figure if a 'best of' is not available, or if i pay a little more than what a cd would cost, i can have the videos and make my own cd. so that's what i've been doing lately. so far i've created an alice in chains 'best of' cd this way and am working on ones for the smashing pumpkins and rage against the machine. at first i tried to do this on the pc. i searched the net for dvd audio rippers and nothing i tried worked. so i gave up on pc programs and started searching for programs for the mac. i've been using audio hijack with much success. the only thing i don't like is that it's very time consuming because it's not an automated ripping program. it merely lets you record audio from a running application of your choice.
[update 2/22/04: the smashing pumpkins cd i made sounds like crap. i actually do own one of their albums and i copied some tracks from there for the comp cd. the dvd source songs sound like total shit compared to the cd source songs. it's like the first 10 seconds rock and the rest of the song sounds muffled. i am trying to figure out why... maybe it extracted from the dvd poorly if i was switching between programs or adjusting the computer's speaker volume. i don't see why it would have anything to do with that but you never know.]
