working with multiple platforms [geeking]

at work i use a mac with os x. at home i have a mac with os 9 and a pc with me. i work at these stations all the time. i will take files and work on them at all of these stations. working back and forth like this from pc to mac is something i have been doing for years. what has always bothered me about this process is that when switching operating systems, files can get fucked. plain text files especially. this bothers me because i like to hand code web pages. i don't like to see the characters that a pc or mac puts in place of a carriage return. it really chaps my hide, chuck.

working on the web version of my film for my class, i have been running around with my portable hard drive, using various platforms. os x treats os 9 files like they are pc files and vice versa. this is a pain. forcing a program to open a file is a 5 second delay for me and it really adds up. speed is everything 'cos i'm a speed freak.
