no pity for the majority [listening]

last night i saw kmfdm at slim's in san francisco. i took twiddle thumbs with me so that way i would have someone to take my picture with raymond watts ;)

inbetween the opening band and kmfdm, twiddle thumbs told me that i have to find a new friend who likes kmfdm because she can't attend any more concerts of theirs. (she doesn't like kmfdm or pig.) well, something miraculous happened during the show. after the set finished, she told me it was really good. when we tried to get raymond to sign some cds after the show, she was even gushing in his presence. i think that is the best indication of how the performance was last night.

raymond sang on most of the songs, which was great. i got a bit tired of him raising the guitar over his head, but that's ok, he has enormous stage presence. the band was very tight, the sound was extremely loud but quite clear. in fact, the vocals were probably the clearest i have ever heard at a concert. after the show, we tried to get some shit signed so we hung out for a bit.

in pictures, steve white is very agro, very intimidating. in person, steve white is a teddy bear, completely non-threatening, even kind of dorky. sascha was pissed off by some "fan" giving him shit. he wasn't happy at all, even still, he took some time out to sign my schwein cd, which i'm grateful for. when i was talking to him for a little bit (about how i've been a fan of buck-tick since i was 12 and it was through them that i learned about pig and kmfdm), he was very sincere. you could see the subtle changes in expression in his face. i'd say sascha's a very nice guy. somehow he reminds me eric avery (jane's addiction). when raymond walked out of the club, you couldn't miss it. it is said he's 6'3" but to me he appears to be even taller than that because i'm so short! raymond was in a hurry but still managed to be extremely nice. he is charmingly british. normally i'm not an anglophile, i don't like things/people simply because they're of uk origin. however, raymond was very polite in the way that americans are not and that is something about his character that i respected and appreciated.
