chaos theory [screaming]
everything was going fine until the end of the day. sure it was busy since my co-worker is out of the office and we've got new student workers i've been training, but it wasn't that bad. i was running a bit late because it never fails that when i am in a hurry, someone asks me to help them with something once i am already out the door. it didn't take me very long to help them but still it was a delay. i was running late to pick up my friend and since my cell phone doesn't get reception at work, right before i left the door i left a message for her. it was so busy that i never really quite had time to go to the bathroom. i figured i was running late so i would get to my car as quickly as possible, then pick up twiddle thumbs and use the bathroom at home.
i was parked at the very top of the parking structure so i decided to take the elevator instead of walking. i've been seeing a lot of deer lately in the morning when i walk out of the parking structure and at the end of the day when i walk to the parking structure. again it was no different. i got to say hello to some deer. i got in the elevator and reached the 6th floor. the door started to open and then it stopped and everything was quiet. i thought perhaps there was a strange malfunction where it couldn't open on the 6th floor so i would try the 5th floor. pressing the buttons didn't do anything. the door was open about an inch or two. everyone's a strong hero on tv and in the movies. i thought i could force the door open. NO! nothing. it was incredibly difficult. i even tried sticking my foot in the crack of the door but then my shoe got stuck for a moment and i was scared what would happen if the power suddenly came back so i gave up that idea.
this was not my idea for this evening at all! i had to use the bathroom and i was hungry. there was an emergency phone but it was after 6pm. i hoped that someone was on campus that knew how to fix elevators and that someone would answer the fucking emergency phone. i pressed a button. nothing. great! ok, try one more time. yes! ringing. i hear a "hello". i then said in a calm and clear voice where i was located and that i was stuck in the elevator. i didn't hear any reply. oh no, now even the phone's power is out! this really sucks. the back wall of the elevator is made of glass and there is a small crack inbetween the elevator doors. it was pretty cruel. if i looked hard enough, i'm sure i could see the deer and my car. i didn't want to look. i wasn't sure what to do. i was out of ideas and just hoping this would end. someone knew what was going on and helped me though because it wasn't very long before the power came back on and the elevator door started to fully open. i didn't care if the operator thought someone was still stuck in an elevator. i was afraid the power might cut out again. so i quickly jumped out of the elevator, got in my car, and drove away to pick up twiddle thumbs, use a bathroom, and eat dinner. *whew* by then i was too late for and wasn't in the mood to go to my astrophotography class (again). i can not and will not miss another session.
