skullblog is authored by kalavinka. this blog is an extension of her memory banks, which makes kalavinka post-human. it helps her to keep track of ideas, reviews of movies/music, documenting travel, and the metamorphosis of life. maintaining this blog has also been an exercise in coding.
the entries in skullblog are written without adhering to traditional confines of grammar and punctuation. this is more stream of consciousness while laying on the floor rather than reporting from a high tower. sometimes i write the mundane, sometimes i am profane, but i do my best to write something everyday, er that is until 2008 when i decided to cut the quantity for quality.
skullblog was created in 2003.
skullblog is powered by movable type (version 3.33).
the contents are copywritten under creative commons. it is the goal of skullblog to utilize css and be free of tables for design purposes. the calendar is done with tables. the flickr javascript generates the images at the top and uses tables. due to the overwhelming amount of spam, comment moderation is in place. later on, stronger measures might be used in the war against spam.
items in the sidebar explained:
- the projects link to 43things where the author keeps track of goals and other things such as places to visit at 43places. (recommended for those with time to kill and like to write lists)
- the playlist is kept track of by last.fm using audioscrobbler. (fun way to log musical listening habit stats and compare with others)
- netflix is where the author rents movies from. (recommended for those that never leave the house)
- delicious is where the author stores links, organized by category. (recommended for remote viewing of one's bookmarks)
- the blog roll is created manually and is a list of (mostly) blogs that the author reads often. (for keeping track of feeds online so you can catch up on your favorite blogs no matter where you are in the world nor on whose computer, try bloglines)

the kalavinka is a musical bird that sings melodies before it has hatched from the egg. much like the bird, she has been creating mixed and multi- media art using whatever was available since her days in the womb. kalavinka is the calavera persona of the author, however that persona seems to have permeated through to other sites and even the offline world.
kalavinka enjoys talking about herself in the third person. no, of course i don't. my first exposure to the internet was in 1994 and i learned basic html in a computer class in 1995. anything beyond that i learned on my own through experimentation and peeking behind the curtains of well-designed sites. everytime i saw a void in cyberspace, i wanted to create a web page for it and spread myself thin doing so. then came the dormant period during which i didn't create much of anything (got a real job) and new tools and standards came into being, which explains the simplistic look of this site.
skullblog is currently based out of los angeles county, california.
