The 1985 México City earthquake was for some the first time
people spoke to their neighbors. The members met and formed the group
after the turbulance with Roco as vocalist, Tiki as guitarist, Sax as
horn player, Aldo as bassist, Lobito as percussionist, and Pacho as
drummer. Lacking musical instruments, at first they practiced on whatever
they could find. It wasn't long before they were playing with instruments
in a warehouse. Tiki was replaced by Pato and his style complemented the
group and they soon gained popularity onstage with their classic Mexican
cinema influenced hybrid of ska, rock, and traditional sounds. The group
gained an international following through rigorous touring of the major
festivals in Europe and opening for such bands as
Caifanes and Jane's Addiction.
Lobito left the group during this time and years later, Pacho would also
leave, through their music remains strong as they continue to play at
various Latin music festivals. Besides the albums below, they have also
released a live album, recorded a song with Los Tigres del Norte, and
appeared on such compilations as Juntos Por Chiapas and a tribute
album for José José. Roco and Sax made a guest appearance
on Tijuana No's first album. Sax
has also appeared live with Victimas del
Dr. Cerebro.
Live Factor: Extremely exciting--watch for Roco's trademark dancing
style. Be careful when the band plays "Pahcuco", for a sudden injection
of energy will surge throughout the crowd and some may have to run for
cover.
