Jaguares = Saúl Hernández. However, once again Alfonso
André is by his side as drummer. For their debut album, Federico
Fong (the non-official bassist of Caifanes'
last days) also joined for the recording and subsequent touring. Jose
Manuel Aguilera on guitar completed the line-up. The second album initiated
Cesar "Vampiro" Lopez (formerly of Azul Violeta and Maná--he played on
their only good album) as second guitarist to Saul. This second album is a
double album consisting of one disc of studio work and one disc of material
recorded live was well received (the Calaveras attended the show recorded for
the disc). The music of Jaguares continues to adhere to the high standards
set forth by Caifanes. However, their 4th album seems to be an unnecessary
rearrangement of their previous works. Though supporting players have come
and gone, the core of the band remains to be Saul, Vampiro, and Alfonso.
Live Factor: In 1996, the concert the Calaveras attended seemed to contain
too much guitar wanking, (3 guitarists on stage), however the shows since
then have been outstanding, and not due to the near Caifanes reunion and
abundance of Caifanes songs. The songs were well played and passionate
without overdrawing any parts. Vampiro's ability to re-create the bird-like
atmospheric sounds penned by Aguilera was well noted.
