The two core members of this Colombian band have been Andrea Echeverri
(vocals; acoustic guitar) and Hector Buitrago (bass; programming).
Their music has gone from punk to rock with spikes of tradition and
now to more softer electro sounds. As Spanish rock branches into the
English speaking market, you will find that Aterciopelados are amongst
those infiltrating, especially since they won a Grammy in 2001 for
Gozo Poderoso and performed on "The Tonight Show". The rise in
their mainstream popularity has led to their albums becoming readily
available, even the once obscure punk debut. Their music can also
be found on the 'Silence = Death' AIDS benefit series (Red Hot and
Latin compilation), a completely Latin Queen tribute album, and in
the film Star Maps. Andrea has a solo album (in theme only, for
the musicians on the album and on tour were Aterciopelados) and a solo
album from Hector is anticipated.
Live Factor: Always a delight in concert. We love it when Andrea
throws cheap plastic toys into the audience to make us cheer and
scramble to grab one like koi flopping to reach food pellets.
