| assignment 1: treatment "Fatima Mansion" Background: A network of people tied together by their common geographical factor--a building. The building is home to businesses and residential spaces. The main common space (public) that the occupants share is an elevator. There is tension between the two occupant classes and their interaction is minimal, but the main point of intersection and interaction is the elevator. The bulk of the story unravels by weaving between public and private spaces: the elevator, two offices, and three apartments.
Characters: Story: Apt1 female works at the apartment manger's office solely for the rental benefit (doesn't pay rent). While doing her daily tasks she comes across something peculiar in the office that appears to be some sort of audio/video control panel. The worker inquires about the panel but the question is quickly dropped by the boss. The worker grows curious as to what the device is and conducts experiments with it. Meanwhile, tenants in several apartments begin to hear noises. Each time the worker (Apt1 female) conducts an experiment, the greater the noise in the apartments become. Each tenant has a different reaction to the noise. Apt1 male doesn't hear the noise at all. Apt2 is disturbed by the noise. They search their apartment in vain and is puzzled because they do not know what is causing the noise. Sanity begins to leave but is regained upon uncovering what may be the noise source. Apt3 is inspired by the noise and wants to use it in his project. He thinks it is coming from the neighboring apartment and chats with Apt1. Apt1 male thinks Apt3 heard his music. Apt3 hires Apt1 to create music for his project. As Apt3 walks away from Apt1 he hears the noise again, realizes it isn't from Apt1, and searches for the noise source. |
